Compass Rose Theater Summer Camps 2023

Compass Rose Theater has the honor of having our summer camps hosted by The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts this summer. This affords us access to its wonderful facilities to bring our students professional theater training in a safe environment. Classes are taught by accredited teachers with a B. A or Master's degree in theatre, have teaching experience and work in the professional theater world. Summer camps are indoors, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday.
Children are invited to attend as many week-long summer camp programs as they like!

We welcome you to the Best Summer Camp for Theatre in Maryland!

Create a Play | Theater Bootcamp | Fairytales Onstage | Improvisation | Play Production

Create a Play

For Elementary Ages - Young actors wear many theatrical hats: playwright, collaborator, actor, and designer, developing original plays, creating dynamic characters, and performing their final product.
Students can attend multiple weeks as new plays are created during each summer camp session.

June 19 - 23

July 24 - 28

August 7 - 11

Theater Bootcamp

An intensive designed to provide middle schoolers with a solid foundation for the young performer, beginners, and those with some onstage experience.

June 26 - 30

Fairytales Onstage

This class offers elementary-aged young actors the opportunity to join an ensemble of actors working together to dramatize classic and contemporary fantasy stories on stage.
The week culminates with a final sharing of highlights and stories for family and friends.

July 10 - July 14

Welcome to Theater

Students ages 12-14 will explore character creation and storytelling, which is at the heart of acting on the stage. They will experience a wide variety of activities focused on basic theater concepts such as ensemble, actor's tools, sharing the stage, dialogue, and action.

July 17 - July 21

Teens and tweens will learn improvisation is a fun team sport! Students will discover a newfound confidence and appreciation for the fearless actor.

July 31 - August 4

Play Production

In this intensive workshop, students will follow the theatrical process from beginning to end. Within the context of a published play, students will audition for roles, memorize lines, learn stage movement, create dynamic characters, and finally perform for a live audience onstage. As in any full production, it will be complete with costumes, props, and a set.

For middle school students, August 14 - 18

For elementary ages, August 21 - 25
