In-person auditions, by invitation only. 

We will respond to applications as we near the in-person audition dates. Those chosen will receive an email from us.

Please save these dates in case you are called in:

Sunday 10/11:  5 PM – 8 PM

Monday 10/12: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Sides from the play will be provided online.

 

Rehearsals:  

Usually 2-3 nights/week and weekend dates (days or evenings), except holidays.​

CASTING

​

Unless otherwise specified for the story, all roles are open to all actors regardless of race, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, or physical ability. 

​

Many roles may require some level of physical intimacy with another actor.

(i.e., touching, hugging, kissing, etc. Please review the Compass Rose Theater Stage Kissing Policy.) We will have an Intimacy Coordinator.

​

Character range (18 - 40s). Double-cast and/or swing roles included. 

 

A Maine accent is not required. A dialect coach will work with the cast.

​

Show Summary:  On a clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not what it seems in the remote town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways.

PETE and GINETTE, who have been dating for a little while.

Show Summary:  

A small group of people helps Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, accompanies the story of Jesus' life as it dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life. 

 

Character Breakdowns:

Note:  Jesus has multiple solo songs.  All other characters have at least one vocal-lead song.

 

Jesus

Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow.

John The Baptist/Judas

He has attributes of both Biblical figures: He is both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way. Usually played by someone handsome and masculine, with an undertone of sexuality. He is the most "serious" and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, he must have a good sense of physical comedy.

Nick

Very high energy. Impish and playful. In the original, he played several musical instruments, including concertina, recorder, and guitar.

Telly

Not the brightest in the bunch, he is a little slow on the uptake. But there is a great sweetness and innocence about him. Because he sings "All Good Gifts," he must be a very good singer.

George

The comedian, the class clown. The guy who can do a hundred voices and imitations.

Anna Maria

A bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. Perhaps the youngest of the group. She is the first in the group to commit to following Jesus in the song "Day by Day."

Vocal range bottom: G#3

 

Lindsay

The confident one, the show-off. The first one to volunteer; sometimes she jumps in before she really understands what's going on.

Vocal range bottom: G#3

 

Uzo

The shy one. Sometimes a little slow to get things, but when she does, she commits all the way. Has an "earth mother" kind of warmth.

Morgan

Sassy and slightly cynical, the most urban of the group. Also the "sexy" one, but her sexiness contains a large element of put-on.

Celisse

The female equivalent of the class clown. Goofy and a cut-up. In the 2012 Broadway revival, she played several instruments, including conga, ukulele, and guitar.
